Don’t mourn the golden age of TV

It created a generation of bores
In a scene from the TV show Breaking Bad, two men sit side by side in yellow hazmat suits, holding beer bottles.

We are now the greater part of the way through the year, and no one has recommended a television series to me. In 2018, I would have received (suffered?) a dozen or more suggestions by now. Meanwhile, in political journalism, I notice fewer of the TV allusions — “What Britain needs is a Logan Roy” — with which commentators let readers know that we have a hinterland, however windswept and underpopulated.

It gets better. The Wikipedia page about our alleged Golden Age of Television now dates it “2000s to 2023” in the title itself, which is quite the statement of finality from that otherwise coy and tactful website.
