Donald Trump praised Charlie Kirk as an “evangelist” and a “martyr” for conservatism as 100,000 mourners gathered in Arizona for a memorial service for the activist whose assassination sent shockwaves across the political divide.
Trump, vice-president JD Vance and senior members of his cabinet addressed the crowd at State Farm Stadium, an American football arena just outside of Phoenix, on Sunday.
The memorial service lasted for more than five hours, as dozens of Republican politicians, conservative media figures and evangelical leaders praised Kirk’s legacy.
