Speaking on the steps of the US Capitol on Tuesday morning, Hakeem Jeffries said his Democratic party was ready to do battle over the looming government shutdown.
“We are in this fight until we win this fight,” the House minority leader said. “We are not going to support a partisan Republican spending bill that continues to gut the healthcare of the American people. Not now. Not ever.”
Jeffries’ comments reflected a high-stakes gamble by the Democrats to stand their ground in a showdown with Donald Trump and Republican leaders over government funding.
