The world was headed for a “climate breakdown” at a global average temperature rise of 2.8C under existing government policies, according to the latest UN report ahead of global climate talks.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres once again warned about the prospects of global warming exceeding 1.5C since the start of the industrial era, saying it was now “inevitable” and “the path to a liveable future gets steeper every day”.
The findings come days ahead of global climate talks in Brazil, where the US will be absent and many national leaders will not be present at a gathering of heads of state held this week before COP30 begins next week.
