Canada and Norway are racing to capitalise on the Middle East energy crisis by boosting development and exports of oil and gas to supply allies in Asia and Europe.
Canadian energy minister Tim Hodgson told the FT the world faced the biggest disruption to energy supplies in history and his country’s producers were in an ideal position to meet customers’ need for alternative supplies.
“It hasn’t been clear in such a long time how important energy security is to our national security and our allies’ national security. And so in many ways it’s Canada’s moment,” said Hodgson in an interview at the CeraWeek energy conference in Houston.
