X’s lawsuit against its own advertisers has been thrown out by a federal judge, ending a legal battle over whether brands orchestrated an “illegal boycott” against the platform after it was bought by Elon Musk.
The social media platform in 2024 sued the World Federation of Advertisers industry group as well as multiple individual brands, accusing them of violating competition law by co-ordinating an “illegal boycott” under the guise of an online safety initiative.
Amazon’s Twitch, Shell, Lego and Pinterest were among defendants after X added and removed several brands from the complaint.
