Maga stands by Trump on Iran — for now

On the streets of small-town Georgia, the president’s base is backing the war as swing voters waver

For the past month, the prevailing view in liberal circles has been that Donald Trump’s war in Iran has irreparably fractured his Maga movement. Conservative voters see it as a betrayal of America First.

But on the streets of small-town America, it is not as simple a story. In Baldwin County, Georgia, Trump supporters who spoke to the FT back the military campaign and back their president. Here, there is little sign of a change of heart.

Ronnie Cowan, a retired employee of the Georgia Department of Corrections from Milledgeville, the county seat, says he is “all for the war”.
