Police seek ‘person of interest’ in New York subway shooting

Gunman fired at least 33 times in subway car at rush hour, hitting 10 people

New York police say they are seeking a “person of interest” in connection with an attack on a Brooklyn subway train in which 10 commuters were shot and at least 13 more were injured.

James Essig, the New York Police Department’s chief of detectives, on Tuesday evening described the shooter as a heavyset black man of about 5-feet 5-inches tall, who wore a grey hooded sweatshirt and a neon high-visibility vest.

Essig said that police recovered a Glock 9 millimetre handgun, several un-detonated smoke grenades and a hatchet from the scene, as well as a key to a U-Haul moving van rented in Philadelphia that they believe is tied to the incident.
