Since leaving office, Donald Trump has done his best to destroy Brian Kemp’s political career. But for about an hour this week, as Kemp made a final appeal to supporters on a steamy Georgia morning, one might think the Republican governor had never heard of his political nemesis at all.
For the best part of 60 minutes, as he glad-handed voters, gave a stump speech and answered reporters’ questions, Kemp did not mention Trump’s name, even when asked directly about the former president.
Kemp is expected to be reselected next Tuesday as his party’s candidate for governor after a bitter campaign during which he has been targeted by the former president, who blames Kemp for his 2020 election loss and has thrown his weight behind Kemp’s opponent, David Perdue.
