Asia’s rapidly evolving markets and its abundance of smaller fund management firms make manager research more important than in more developed markets, according to the firms that specialise in such research.
“There’s a lot more demand to run emerging market manager reviews and research now than there used to be,” says Mahendran Nathan, chief executive of the Asean region at Russell Investments.
“It’s very important to understand the people who manage funds in Asia. Emerging markets are constantly in flux, so you tend to follow the people more.”
