Murdochs face grilling from lawmakers

News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch and his son James have bowed to pressure from UK parliamentarians and agreed to give evidence next week to a House of Commons committee investigating the News of the World phone-hacking scandal.

A News Corp spokesperson said: “We are in the process of writing to the select committee with the intention that Mr James Murdoch and Mr Rupert Murdoch will attend next Tuesday’s meeting.’’

As a US citizen, Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corp, was not legally obliged to attend.
