RIM tries to placate investors after hiring search firm to expand board

Research In Motionplans to expand its board in an attempt to assuage investor concernsabout the performance of the struggling Canadian BlackBerry smartphone maker and head off a potential shareholder revolt.

Barbara Stymiest, RIM’s chairman, told shareholders at the company’s annual meeting in Waterloo, Ontario, that she understood their frustration and acknowledged that the ­company’s recent financial ­performance had “not met expectations”.

Ms Stymiest said RIM was “actively seeking to augment the board” and had hired an outside recruitment company to assist in the process.
