Washington feuding erupts over surveillance of allies

Washington is starting to turn on itself as the furore over the wiretapping of friendly foreign leaders continues to grow.

The White House and Congress are both pursuing separate reviews of intelligence collection, including whether to continue trying to monitor the mobile phones of foreign leaders from friendly or allied nations.

At the same time, people connected to the intelligence community are pushing back against the idea that the White House did not know that the National Security Agency was sometimes intercepting the communications of foreign leaders.
