Revisions show Japan's GDP expanded at a faster than anticipated pace in the first quarter, as business spending surged ahead of the April 1 tax hike.
The economy expanded by 1.6 per cent in the first quarter, versus an original reading of 1.5 per cent.
Economists had expected the pace of GDP to slow down to 1.4 per cent on downward adjustments to private capital expenditure.
