In late trading the Shanghai Composite suddenly dropped 5 per cent. Earlier in the session it was up as much as 2.4 per cent.
The wild swing comes on yet another record day for daily turnover: total volume on the Shanghai Composite today has reached $114bn, about six times the 2014 average (see first chart).
