Tang Media Partners, an investment group with offices in Los Angeles and Shanghai, is close to agreeing to buy Open Road Films, a second-tier Hollywood production and distribution company from its owners AMC Entertainment Holdings and Regal Entertainment.
The transaction will give its founder Donald Tang and his powerful Chinese investors, including Tencent Holdings and China Media Capital, another source of Hollywood content for mainland audiences.
Mr Tang served as an adviser to AMC when it was sold to Dalian Wanda Group, and since then has gone from brokering deals to orchestrating them for himself. Mr Tang formed his company in 2015 and last year bought a controlling stake in IM Global, a film distribution, production and sales group from its Indian owner Anil Ambani.
