North Korea has called the latest UN sanctions against the regime an “act of war”, vowing to strengthen its nuclear capability and to punish those who approved the measures.
Pyongyang’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that the US-led sanctions are a “grave infringement” of its sovereignty and insisted that its nuclear weapons are a “self-defensive deterrence” and not against international law.
The bellicose statement came after the UN on Friday imposed more sanctions on the country, in the latest effort to squeeze the North Korean regime after Pyongyang’s third test of an intercontinental ballistic missile in late November.
