Silicon Valley was for years the Teflon industry — beloved by equity markets, politicians and the public alike. No more. Since revelations about digital election manipulation, personal data collection and the potential incompatibilities between social media and liberal democracy, both the Faangs (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google) and the Chinese Bats (Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent) have been playing offence.
