As I listen to French podcasts while I walk in the woods near my home, I note the change of Brexit mood. The regret about France losing the only other military power in the EU, and the departure of a pragmatic and sensible voice, has been replaced by irritation.
But the French podcasts turn only occasionally to Brexit. They have much else to talk about, including the gilets jaunes protests and the spat between President Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel.
Last week, I listened to a podcast from Le Nouvel Esprit Public, a current affairs site, about Carlos Ghosn, the former Nissan chairman who faces criminal charges in Japan, including understating his salary and breach of trust. He denies the allegations.
