Hannah Mariaux whizzes around her spotless kitchen workbench as she demonstrates her culinary skills. Ten minutes later she shows off her creation: a chilli con carne made from tinned tomatoes, a sachet of chipotle paste and chilli flakes, served with grated cheese and spring onion.
“I wrote the recipe, I know what I’m doing,” she says.
Ms Mariaux, who used to help out in her parents’ restaurant, is a recipe developer at Gousto, a company that makes meal kits. In her job at the heart of a new industry, she creates recipes that can be prepared by customers at home using carefully weighed, fresh ingredients dispatched by delivery van.
