Netanyahu took secret flight to Saudi Arabia to meet crown prince

Visit signals historical shift in relationship between erstwhile foes

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a secret two-hour trip to Saudi Arabia, according to an Israeli official and local media, in a visit that would signal a historic shift in relations between the erstwhile foes.

The meeting would be the first known instance of any Israeli leader visiting Saudi Arabia. It comes weeks after the UAE and Bahrain signed US-brokered normalisation deals with Israel and amid intense speculation about whether Saudi Arabia would follow suit.

Yoav Galant, an Israeli cabinet minister, appeared to confirm the meeting between Mr Netanyahu and Prince Mohammed when he said the weekend trip was “amazing”.
