Minnesota police chief says officer shot and killed black man in error

Incident that led to Daunte Wright’s death involved ‘accidental’ use of gun instead of taser

The police chief of a Minneapolis suburb said an officer who shot and killed a young black man during a traffic stop intended to use a Taser and mistakenly fired her gun instead.

Tim Gannon, head of Brooklyn Center police, described the incident that killed Daunte Wright, 20, and set off a night of protests and civil unrest as an “accidental discharge” of a firearm.

The police department released video footage taken from a body camera that show an officer yelling, “Taser, Taser, Taser”, and then, “Oh shit, I shot him”.
