Coca-Cola to launch cane sugar-based Coke in US this autumn

Move follows Donald Trump’s announcement that company would move away from using high-fructose corn syrup

Coca-Cola has said it will launch a new version of its signature soft drink sweetened with cane sugar later this year, days after US President Donald Trump announced that the company had agreed to the move.

The soft-drinks giant reported on Tuesday that its net revenues in the second quarter rose 1 per cent to $12.5bn, despite health-conscious Americans increasingly turning away from sodas. The figure came in above analysts’ expectations. The Atlanta-based company’s shares closed 0.6 per cent lower on Tuesday.

Coca-Cola had been raising the prices of drinks including Sprite, Fanta, Powerade and Topo Chico to offset falling sales across the globe. Prices increased 6 per cent between April and June as the volume of drinks sold fell 1 per cent, the company said.
