Obama administration ‘outrage' at big bonuses for AIG managers

President Barack Obama's administration expressed outrage yesterday at $165m of bonuses paid by the troubled insurance giant AIG, but said it could not stop the payments in spite of massive federal government help for the company.

The comments came before the planned publication last night by AIG of a list of counterparties to its financial derivatives contracts after weeks of congressional pressure to disclose the information.

Lawrence Summers, Mr Obama's senior economic adviser, said AIG's behaviour was “outrageous”.
