Women in some of the UK's leading finance companies receive about 80 per cent less in performance-related pay than male colleagues, revealing a “shocking disparity” in earnings, an inquiry by the Equality and Human Rights Commission has found.
The inquiry, including data from 50 companies employing more than a fifth of the sector's workforce, found nearly all women taking up new jobs in finance companies started on lower salaries than men.
The commission said this finding suggested the industry's gender pay gap – one of the widest in the UK economy – was being “entrenched” by recruitment patterns.
