Instagram sparks negative backlash over picture rights

Instagram is facing a backlash from users after the rapidly growing photo-sharing app owned by Facebook altered its privacy policy and terms of service to allow advertisers to buy users’ photos and data “without any compensation”.

Users assailed social networks with threats to delete their accounts for the photo-sharing app now used by more than 100m people, more than double the number when Facebook bought in April in a cash-and-stock deal worth about $730m.

The protests follow a series of controversies as internet companies such as Facebook and Google impose new terms and conditions on their users as they seek new ways to make money from their content.
