Japan’s Shinzo Abe warns on Pyongyang chemical weapons threat

North Korea may already possess the ability to launch chemical weapon attacks using ballistic missiles, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has warned, as Tokyo seeks to rally public support for pressure on Pyongyang.

“There is a possibility that North Korea already has the ability to put sarin gas in a warhead and deliver it,” Mr Abe told parliament, flagging the threat Pyongyang poses beyond its nuclear programme.

His comments come as US president Donald Trump seeks to increase military and financial pressure on the North Korean regime to induce it to give up its ballistic and nuclear weapons programme.
