The most powerful official at China’s only government-sanctioned trade union has warned of the alleged involvement of “hostile foreign forces” in the country’s labour movement, triggering fresh fears among human rights groups.
The comments by Li Yufu, vice-chairman of the All China Federation of Trade Unions, come as non-governmental organisations are braced for a new NGO law that stands to ramp up police scrutiny and make it tougher to operate. No drafts of the law have been made public.
In the latest issue of Outlook, a state magazine widely read by government officials and members of the ruling Communist party, Mr Li wrote: “Hostile foreign forces are intensifying their infiltration.
