The problem
I am an expert in stress testing at financial institutions and have been approached by a big four professional services firm for a senior job. On the application form they ask my gender, adding “if you are undergoing gender reassignment, please use the gender identity you wish to acquire”. They then ask for my sexual orientation, giving me the options: heterosexual / gay / lesbian / transgender / other / I prefer not to disclose. Do I really want to work for a company that asks such questions? And what does “other” mean? Consultant, male, 46
